Program Notes
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is a tragic play about Tom, his mother Amanda, his sister Laura, and gentleman caller named Jim. The music underscores both the nostalgia and the rising tension of the drama with its simplicity, harmonic shifts, and leitmotifs for each main character. The suite was arranged in Summer 2014 and based on original material from the production of "The Glass Menagerie" at Dordt College in October 2011. The incidental music was a National Finalist in Sound Design at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, March 2012.
Tom: The Prologue
"The play is memory ..."
Amanda: The Southern Belle
"What is it you want to discuss? Oh, Laura..."
Laura: The Victrola
"Like bits of a shattered rainbow..."
Amanda: The Working Mother
"A gentleman caller ..."
Jim: Blue Roses Tango and Love Scene
"Go to the moon -- you selfish dreamer!"
Tom: The Final Monologue
Note: To use this music in a production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, please contact me directly to arrange a contract for your production. The music for the stage production differs from the suite version and has further instructions regarding cues and underscoring.
